WASHINGTON – On May 21, 2025, the Senate Judiciary Committee held a hearing for John A. Squires, nominated on March 11 by President Trump to serve as Director of the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO). Below is a statement from Dave Jones, Executive Director of High Tech Inventors Alliance (HTIA):
“The USPTO is facing challenges, including a weakened IPR process and budget reductions that strain examiners, threatening the reliable patent system American innovators count on. HTIA looks forward to working closely with John Squires, whose leadership we hope will revitalize the USPTO and drive meaningful progress. We stand ready to support efforts to empower American innovators, protect U.S. companies from abusive litigation, and strengthen a patent system that fuels research, innovation, and job creation.”
