WASHINGTON – On September 18, 2025, John A. Squires, nominated on March 11 by President Trump to serve as Director of the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO), was confirmed by the U.S. Senate. Below is a statement from Dave Jones, Executive Director of High Tech Inventors Alliance (HTIA):

“We congratulate incoming Director Squires on his confirmation and sincerely look forward to working with him to reverse some of the USPTO’s recently adopted policies that have weakened the IPR process and undermined the President’s America First agenda. As USPTO’s new leader, we hope that Squires will usher in important reforms that would once again prioritize American innovation over the interests of foreign entities. We believe that this moment demands leadership from the USPTO and urge Squires to implement sensible policies that benefit American companies, innovators, and consumers rather than foreign trolls.”
